How Your Support Makes an Impact
Every day, almost 40 children are diagnosed with cancer. Though survival rates have improved to nearly 80 percent, there remains much work to be done. Cancer remains the most common illness-related cause of death in children. It affects children of all ages, races, religions, and genders. Despite the overall progress in fighting cancer, some types of tumors remain extremely difficult to cure.
For adolescents and young adults (AYAs), the struggle is often greater. Each year, over 70,000 people between the ages of 15 and 39 will receive a cancer diagnosis. For patients in this age group, however, survival rates have not improved in nearly 30 years. AYA patients often find themselves between worlds and struggle to find the care they need.
Children’s has been a national leader in both pediatric and AYA cancer care. Membership in national organizations such as Children’s Oncology Group and Critical Mass, we are highly involved in the advances for both pediatric and AYA oncology patients. Laboratory research, clinical trials, supportive care, and survivorship initiatives are all parts of our comprehensive approach to improving outcomes and quality of life for our patients and for patients around the country.
We need your support to continue our efforts and continue the fight against cancer!
