Celebrating 50 Years of Service to the Community: McKamish’s Blueprint for Success

McKamish is a Lawrenceville-based company that has always believed in the importance of giving back to the greater Pittsburgh community. For the past 50 years, the family-owned business has been a leader in mechanical contracting services.

And for most of that time, McKamish has been a significant partner to UPMC Children’s, too. Laying the groundwork for a legacy of community giving, the McKamish family and McKamish employees have hammered out meaningful ways to make a difference for the children and families who turn to UPMC Children’s in their greatest times of need.

Building a Strong Foundation for Pittsburgh’s Children

When it comes to supporting UPMC Children’s, McKamish is all in! Whether it’s pounding the pavement at the annual Walk for Children’s or working the phones at the KDKA Free Care Fund Telethon, McKamish employees never miss an opportunity to help build a strong foundation for our patients.

McKamish has been particularly devoted to the hospital’s Free Care Fund. Through participation in telethon and other creative Free Care fundraising efforts, McKamish and its many generous employees help to ensure that every child receives the lifesaving care they need, regardless of a family’s ability to pay the cost.

Engineering Enhanced Heart Care

In November 2023, UPMC announced plans to construct a new Heart Institute at UPMC Children’s, and once again, the McKamish family answered our call for support, cementing their commitment to the region’s kids and families.

McKamish joined UPMC Children’s as not only the HVAC and plumbing contractor on the new space, but also as a philanthropic partner on the project. The 50,000-square foot, three-story Heart Institute addition underway will include state-of-the-art clinical spaces as well as comfortable waiting and reception rooms for families, raising the bar for care and technology in pediatric cardiology.

In October 2024, members of the McKamish team left their mark on the project when they signed the ceremonial topping-off beam. The final structural steel beam was then hoisted into place on the top floor of the three-story addition. With help from our friends at McKamish, the new Heart Institute addition is expected to open in 2026.

50 Years of Excellence

McKamish has spent five decades developing more than just structures — they’ve established a blueprint for charitable giving, partnership, and community impact.

From hospital halls to construction sites, they prove that true excellence isn’t just measured in structures and beams but in the lives they touch. Our deepest thanks to McKamish for helping to build a healthy future for every child!
