From Patient to Champion: Jordy’s Journey with XLP2

Every year, local member hospitals of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN) identify a “Champion” within each local community to serve as the face for children treated at their local children’s hospital. These ambassadors spend their year advocating for the charitable needs of children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.

Meet UPMC Children’s 2025 CMN Champion, Jordy!

Jordy’s Journey

At five years old, Jordy’s life took an unexpected turn with a series of symptoms that baffled doctors. After months of tests and hospital stays, doctors ultimately diagnosed Jordy with a rare genetic disorder called XLP2.

Jordy was featured in the 2024 KDKA Free Care Fund Telethon as one of our junior co-hosts. Learn more about his story, from Jordy himself and his mom, Natasha below.

From Rare Disease to CMN Champion

Jordy’s journey was filled with uncertainty and complex treatments. Finally, Jordy’s medical team performed a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Thanks to decades of research, specialists in the Division of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapies are able to use healthy bone marrow — either from the child or another donor — to replace damaged or destroyed marrow. For Jordy, the procedure was a success!

Today, Jordy is thriving, thanks to the care and specialized treatment he received at UPMC Children’s. He loves to spend time with friends, playing sports, and video games.

As a Children’s Miracle Network Champion, Jordy and his family will play a vital role in raising awareness about the ongoing need for donations to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals like UPMC Children’s.

Thank you to Jordy for serving as this year’s Champion and shining a light on the direct impact that generosity from community members can have on patients and families at UPMC Children’s. By supporting UPMC Children’s, you help kids like Jordy get the treatment and care they need to thrive.
